In "The Rising of Popular Culture: A Historiographical sketch" the author LeRoy Ashby mentions "...an impressive examination of entertainments since colonial times, from the theater to pulp magazines, comics popular music, radio, television and movies." This shows how much pop culture has grown in our daily lives. He also says there are different groups with differerent backgrounds that create pop culture (pg 12). There are many different groups of people that contribute to popular culture in their own way. After the last couple of weeks my conception of popular culture has expanded. At first I figured that it was just simply what society found to be interesting. Now I realize that popular culture is so much more complex. You are able to break it down into many diffent area such as based on who you are and the time frame that you're in.

Popular culture has changed drastically over the years. Back then there was no facebook, youtube or google. Everyone had to get their information by books and television. Today social media has completely taken over and its everywhere you look.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you said it’s so complex. There is nothing simple about pop culture. It is what you make of it. If you only want to see it as a couple things like music and art you can or you can see it as a lot of things put together. What does pop culture mean to you on a personal level? To me it is what is popular in my generation because the stuff around me influences me the most.
ReplyDeletePop culture is everything around basically from working to being home. It follows through everywhere you go whither it be technology or something use daily. It's like you said where this generation the stuff around us influence us the most.
